The Vibe for Fall 2010: What's French for "clothes for rich young dudes"? In other words, suits that at first look remind you of your own stuff (i.e., there's nothing fashion-y here), but when you look closer, you see the differences: they're suits that are cut more French and youthful than American (i.e., slim and tight and shuzzhed up with a wallet chain.) And Hermès being Hermès, it's all about the insane craftsmanship. Especially when it comes to the leathers and other skins, their specialty. Like in the shoes and croc jackets and suede coats. Just the thing you want to be wearing when you are having brunch on Sunday and ordering a $30 bellini.
Backstory
Designer: Véronique Nichanian
Owned By: Private
Founded: 1837, Paris
History: Thierry Hermès' company began producing saddles, harnesses, and bridles for Russian czars and European nobility in 1837. By the early twentieth century, the company had expanded into clothing (the brand introduced the first zippered golf jacket, in case you were wondering) and accessories. Over the past two decades, men's designer Véronique Nichanian has earned a devoted following for collections that offer a modern take on the brand's luxury heritage—plus the occasional (and season-appropriate) injection of color.
The Look: Lavish understatement with a French accent
